THE WAITING PLACE

My favourite part of one of my favourite Dr Seuss books… If you havn’t read the whole book – I do recommend. Such an uplifting book.

You can get so confused that you’ll start in to race
down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,
headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.

The Waiting Place

… for people just waiting.

Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting around for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.

I LOVE this book so darn much. I get goosebumps when I read it to the Bebito. We actually bought it for him as a birth present (silly I know) cos we wanted it to be his guide through life. Between Dr Seuss and Roald Dahl I think all the answers to life can be sourced. :)

I didn't grow up with Dr Seuss, so it has been a gradual process of discovery since having Nonie! I borrowed this book from the library the other week and it got me too – might have to get us a copy we can own! Particularly liked how it didn't promise life would be easy… It's been great to find your blog at last (thanks go to Ali P for that) -I could NOT remember what you called

we love this book too – and sometimes this particular page provides a bit of food for thought and an impetus to keep going! (my daughter love the next page – "no, that's not for you!…" we always get to play boom bands in our house!
